A word from the team leader
The Nanomaterials for Energy team (Nanome) includes 10 teacher-research chemists and solid-state physicists, all from the Université d'Artois. The team's work is focused on the world of ‘nano’ and its main activities concern the synthesis, characterisation and modelling of new materials with specific properties for the energy sector.
Its expertise focuses on i) methods for developing nanomaterials (0D, 1D, 2D) by chemical routes (sol-gel, co-precipitation, hydrothermal) or by physical techniques (pulsed laser ablation, RF Magnetron Sputtering); ii) advanced materials characterisation techniques (structural characterisation and various spectroscopic analyses) ; iii) DFT and ab initio calculations, combined with the integration of Machine Learning techniques and Evolutionary Algorithms; iv) the study of ferro- and piezo-electric properties on a local scale through the use of electrical modes of atomic force microscopy and v) the study of photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical properties.

Themes
- Synthesis and characterisation of nanomaterials: thin films (2D), nanorods (1D) and nanoparticles (0D)) and hybrid materials for the energy domain.
- Advanced characterisation of nanomaterials: X-ray diffraction, ATG/DSC, SEM coupled with X-ray fluorescence, AFM and its electrical modes, Raman spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry, photoelectrochemical techniques and impedance spectroscopy, electrochemical H2 and O2 microsensors, etc.
- Piezoelectric energy harvesting
- Synthesis and properties of photoactive materials for light energy conversion (photocatalysis, photoelectrode, photodetection, photovoltaics)
- DFT and ab initio calculations, combined with the integration of Machine Learning techniques and Evolutionary Algorithms
